Another Tuesday, another Top Ten post linking up with The Broke and the Bookish only this time, it’s a bit different as I’m not listing anything book related but my top ten favourite tv shows instead.
The West Wing
I’m not going to rank these shows because that would be too difficult. No list of mine could be complete without The West Wing so it seems like a good place to start. This show is one I could watch over and over. The characters are amazing and it has given me (albeit romanticised) insights into the inner workings of the White House. Aaron Sorkin is a master at showing the behind the scenes stuff and I love the way he writes dialogue so don’t be surprised to see another one of his shows on this list.
This show, sadly, was a very short lived one of just one season. I have already written a whole post about why this show mattered so much to me.
I have seen Gilmore Girls more times than I should probably admit to but it’s an incredibly quotable show and one that I grew up with. Lorelai’s dynamic with Rory reminded me of the one I had with my own mother and even Emily felt like my own grandmother in the way she reacted so I stood no chance with the show. I just love this show so much.
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
Aaron Sorkin show number 2. Much like Go On, this was a one season show but one that I loved nonetheless. People are really split about this show, either you love it or you don’t, there hardly seems no middle ground. I love it and it’s characters. This was actually the first Sorkin show I ever saw and now I have watched them all, some even multiple times.
The best Joss Whedon show there is in my opinion. And again another one season show because Fox was being an idiot, showing them out of order. It has a very tight and homely feel to it and you can tell these characters really do care about each other. Plus the theme song is really amazing!!
Oh I am such a Marshmallow. Sure, the show isn’t perfect but what is?! Mini!Me wanted nothing more than to be a detective so I had no chance but to like this show!
Boy did I fall for The Fall.
Terrible word play is terrible. It starts Gillian Anderson as one of the fiercest female characters I have ever seen. Add a compelling storyline and a a queer secondary character and I’m a happy camper. I’m currently impatiently awaiting season 2.
Despite the terrible last season, I love this show and I really need to watch it again even though I have only seen it for the first time this year.
The Emmys didn’t think Tatiana Maslany’s performance on the show worth a nomination or the writing on the show but that just proves how dumb they are because this is probably the best show on TV at this moment. Maslany plays so many different characters and they are all different and even when she is playing Allison impersonating Sara you can still tell who is doing whom. It is utterly amazing.
Orange is the New Black
I somehow wasn’t as ecstatic about season 2 as I was about the first one but nonetheless it is still an incredible show, mostly because it is a show mostly about women. It is incredibly diverse both considering race and also sexual orientation or identity.
So that was my list. How about you? Let me know about your favourite shows in the comments!
